Traditional training

Traditionally, training to become a florist requires full-time study, taking between one to two years to complete. For younger students who are starting their first career, this typical length of training may not cause too many concerns. For those, however, who are planning a career change, preparing their retirement or even a second career option for example, may find a lengthy training period quite an obstacle. In fact, one cannot own their own flower shop with assured success without proper training and necessary knowledge. After spending one or two years studying students often find it difficult to achieve their goals. They find themselves in a seemingly impenetrable field, earning only a minimum wage salary. The time and money they invested far greater exceeds their gain. This can be so discouraging that they usually abandon this type of study altogether missing out on a potentially lucrative and meaningful career.

Our training

In 1991 The International Florist Academy and School (IFAS) responded to this problem in the floral industry by offering a brand new concept. A special program was specifically designed to help train people who love flowers and want to become florists to do so in relatively little time. The school's program gets students earning a living quickly doing what they love. They acquire all the knowledge necessary to launch their new career while learning the secrets of the trade. The diploma is recognised enabling the graduate to gain a decent living whether working for a florist or opening their own shop.

As a result, their investment in time and money is significantly reduced and there future in Floristery secured.

Thanks to our concept, our trainees acquire, from the very first level and in less time, the key notions which will grant them autonomy, confidence and stimulate their creativity. They are able to create 80% of the floral arrangements that exist in any catalogue.
